Thursday 24th November
| Public Meeting - Stop the Allerton Incinerator
Whixley Village Hall, 7.30pm
Please come along to a presentation of the issues.
- Why we need to oppose the incinerator
- How it will affect you
- Cheaper and more environmentally friendly options
- Why this is bad for the ratepayers of North Yorkshire
- What NYWAG and the Parish Councils are doing on your behalf
- The planning process - what you can do and how you can make a difference
- This is not a 'done deal'!
Signs
Now's the time to get the signs back up. If you've still got your sign, please put it out again. If you would like a replacement or have a new site where we could put a sign, please contact steve@nywag.org.
Fundraising
It's also time to start our fundraising efforts in earnest. See www.nywag.org for details of how you can donate. Please organise an event and help spread the message. If you haven't donated or sent a pledge, please do so. Details are on the website.
Tell 5 people
A lot of people still don't know that North Yorkshire will be getting an incinerator if we don't fight it. Please make a point of passing this newsletter onto at least 5 people you know (forward to a friend) and ask them to sign the petition at www.nywag.org.
First thoughts on the planning application
If you've had chance to read the planning application, you'll realise what a massive task it is. We've had a team of people looking at the implications and flaws in it, and there are many. We've been told that the period for objections is 21 days from 4th November (November 25th), but any correspondence received prior to the application being decided (either by the Secretary of State, Eric Pickles or by NYCC's Planning Committee) should be taken into account. We've already sent a holding letter indicating the areas on which we will be objecting in full as soon as we can. We urge you to do the same with a follow up later.
How to oppose the AmeyCespa incinerator application
You should write to: Shaun Robson, Planning Services, Business and Environmental Services Directorate, County Hall, Northallerton DL7 8AH. Or send an email to: allertonwaste@northyorks.gov.uk.
It is important that you quote reference: NY/2011/0328/ENV

St Bartholomew's Church, 10.00am - noon
Our present church has been the spiritual heart of this community since 1837. We have baptised, married and buried the people of this community and hope that we can continue to do so in the future. Today our ministry includes visiting those who are sick in hospital or at home, providing a place for daily private prayer, as well as regular services held by the Rector and our pastoral team.
Our social events raise much needed funds and we are grateful for the support of a fine group of volunteers who help with the upkeep of the building and grounds but we could do more if funds allowed.
Please support your Church so your church can continue to support you. Refreshments will be provided all morning.

Tuesday 4th October
| The Rocking Horse Winner
Marton cum Grafton Village Hall.
Tickets: £9.50, call Linda on 325179
Adapted from a DH Lawrence short story. On the face of it the story is a satire on gambling and the obsession with money, however there is an oddity for what Lawrence causes to happen in the story is absolutely supernatural and cannot be rationalised away. Young Paul is a boy in search of two things, the approval of his mother and the place where Luck is. But how far will his sinister old rocking horse take him? Set against a vivid background of colourful race meetings, jockeys, touts and bookies, audiences will find themselves plunged into a dark psychological thriller that is laced with satire as North Country Theatre tells the tale in their highly visual and popular style.

The Appalachian step dancing that they do is also known as Appalachian clog dancing and it originates from the USA; it has also been influenced by British and Irish dance as well as other European, African and native American Indian dance styles and it is done to live 'old time' American music from fiddles, melodian and banjo. One of the dance team is from our own village.
The start time has yet to be confirmed but it will be either at 8pm or 8.30pm. This is free entertainment and we hope that as many people as possible will take advantage of this opportunity and come and support the dancers.

Friday 20th May
| Parcevall Hall - Benefice awayday
Parcevall Hall, near Appletreewick,
The benefice has an away day to Parcevall Hall , near Appletreewick, each year and everyone in the area, whether an occasional or regular churchgoer is welcome to come along on Friday 20th May.
The day starts at 10.00 am with a welcome hot drink and then our speaker for the day usually leads a discussion session or talks about the theme for the day. We have another break for coffee and then a second session or occasionally time to ourselves in the beautiful grounds. There is a small chapel at the hall and a short service of Holy Communion is held for those who wish to attend. Lunch follows in the lovely dining area, and then an afternoon session of discussion, followed by tea at 3.45 pm- a very relaxing but usually thought-provoking day.
This year we are very privileged that The Very Reverend Keith Jukes, Dean of Ripon will be leading our day. Booking forms will be available in all churches soon, so please see if you could join us this year.
We hope to obtain some grant aid towards the cost of the day, but guests usually pay £20 or so for the day. We usually car share, so lifts can be found if you are unable to drive. If you have any queries, please contact Jean Cox, 340586.
