Who Needs Ice? - Victorian & Edwardian Roller Skating

During my research into the history of brass bands I came across details of some of the bands that were used to entertain visitors and skaters at the skating rinks which sprang up in a series of 'crazes' during the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras.

This resulted in two articles - one on the Rink brass bands, and another on the roller-skating heritage of the town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Both of these are available to download as PDF files from the links on the right.

There is a gallery of images, largely drawn from contemporary postcards, which can be viewed via the links on the right.
